Last two IDAHO poems

The final two poems which I had written for IDAHO 2012. I read them last night and was super nervous.

A Letter

There is nothing better

Than a hand-written letter

Today you wrote one to me

There is nothing better

Than the feeling you get

That letter you wrote was from me!

I read about

A time long ago

A time when hate didn’t matter

When two men could live

As they wanted to be

We found our own piece of peace

We searched and we fought

We found what we wanted

We ran the race for that goal

But ten years from now

When I meet with myself

Will we really even really be free?

Dialogue with my gay self

“Love… what does it mean?”

Why so mean?

“Fuck me, fist me”

Not me, not me

“Let go, just stop it!”

Just be, just be

Lover and hater

We play them both well

But who do we hate,

more than ourselves?

Steeped in shame

Yet basking in the glitter

Our painful facades

We wear as our armour

From top to bottom

We examine ourselves

But the more we pick,

The less we delve

Walking alone in

This big bad world

It apparently gets better

Yet all I feel, is bitter

Maybe one day

We will all unite

Until then in darkness,

Continue we must fight.

To some the most wretched,

The scum of this earth.

But will it ever change, until we know our worth?
